I am so excited to share with ye a fabulous find that I hope both you and your kids will love. Now I might be a little overly excited when it comes to this item, after all it is a just a lunchbox but as a born consumer, raised in Shopaholic’s Dreamland the USA, then converted into a conservative” shop with a purpose” European, lil treasures are a rare find for me (although my husband would disagree haha, perhaps rarer find is better way to put it) so when I find something that has purpose, competitively priced and aesthetically pleasing I just have to share it with my Yummy Mummy community.

So let me tell you about why I came across this product, yes one would think well its a lunchbox, duh you needed a lunchbox for your kids but no its not that simple. I literally have gone through dozens of lunch boxes and really had no particular requirements except that they fit enough lunch, keep some food groups separate and were relatively cheap and easy to open and close. But then I met my kids, and well they always prove to me that my ordinary and simple requirements aren’t extensive enough to meet their needs. My kids have the unique ability to find a way to create the ultimate lunchbox horror story and well lets just say I’ve gone through a fair share of yoghurt covered books, and backpacks and clothes, and even extending to other people’s supplies and backpacks…I could go on but I won’t [cause I might cry]. So after moving to Germany and having to invest in the world’s most expensive backpack, pencil cases etc. to meet the German standards, [a blog for another day] I decided to search for the ultimate lunchbox and came across the YUMBOX.

So most moms are well used to the bento lunch boxes, that gives you the ability to include all the food groups you need into one lunchbox and feel like the best mom in the world =) (for 10 mins that is)…long gone are the days when you’d get a sandwich and an apple in a paper bag or if you were from the real hardcore school of raring NOTHING and told you’ll be fed when you come back home, now the mummy police would be out to get you for underachievement in your nutritional responsibility for your child…so you will be pleased to know the YumBox can keep them away and even possibly get your kids excited about eating lunch for a change.

YUMBOX GETS THE YUMMY MUMMY SEAL OF APPROVAL….this is why?

  • It is super cute and has illustrated images that provide you with a guide to the different food groups. This is so handy especially for the days when you wish you could put a snickers and some grapes in the lunchbox and call it a day! (come on, you know you’ve had one of those days)
  • There are a lot of colours to choose from! and the cutest images, even a paris collection!
  • Lightweight! This is a plus as my eldest daughter usually carries what feels like the kitchen sink in her backpack.
  • Durable! (VERY DURABLE even the clasp) it is hard to find a lunchbox my kids can’t break and this seems to be passing the test! (crossing my fingers)
  • Easy enough to open (3 years and up friendly)
  • They can be used as an adult lunchbox!
  • BPA free, dishwasher top rack friendly (but I wouldn’t recommend it)
  • Under 25 euro, might be a bit dear but compared to other bentos this is not expensive.
  • Easy to clean! You can take the inner tray out and all of the corners are rounded for real easy cleaning inner and outer
  • This lunchbox is completely sealed when closed. I mean super leak- proof and I have put it to the test. Dips, dressings and yoghurts stay in their section without mixing with other food groups or leaking out of the lunchbox.
  • You can also buy the trays separately if you want to prepare the lunches in advance or you just want another pretty thing.
  • Best of all no extra pieces, lids, or small bits that can easily go missing and mean your whole purchase is futile.

A YUMMY MUMMY TIP

Of course most liquids (unless its soup haha) will go fine in the YUMBOX but if you choose to put something slightly runny I suggest putting a small piece of bread crust in the container to absorb some of the liquid and keep it from spilling over to one of the other sections. It is very rare that it will leak out of the lunchbox, of course that is if your child closes the lunchbox to begin with, which isn’t always a guarantee with my lil’ angels =)

A few things to consider before buying…

  • The two sizes I bought were the 4 compartment YUMBOX Panino and 6 compartment YUMBOX Original. They aren’t the largest but they fit enough for my younger children who have short school days. However, for my secondary school child this lunchbox is a bit small but YUMBOX have now addressed that with their new addition YUMBOX Tapas which is larger than the rest and still has the other perks, and I will definitely be purchasing soon.
  • In my opinion the 6 compartment Yumbox Orignal is only good for kindergarten/pre-schoolers/toddlers who are eating simple small snacks at nursery school, or for the fussy eater who you can’t get to eat anything substantial but other than that the 6 sections are only 1/2 cup sized and can’t fit any small sandwiches or proper lunch unless you are super inventive.
  • The 4 compartment however has a large section for a regular sized sandwich (2 cup) and then has two smaller sections 1/2 cups and a dip sized portion. In my opinion this is the best size for adults and children as you can fit in a lot more and still have the option to segregate the food groups etc but I imagine the YUMBOX Tapas is even a better option for only 4 euro more.
  • They might be a bit pricey for a lunchbox but like I said for me they are a necessary investment and well worth one.
  • They aren’t insulated but still keep food fresh and can fit into most insulated lunch bags as they are very flat and compact.
  • I wouldn’t trust them to go many times in the dishwasher and definitely only top rack.

So there you go girlies, if you are looking for some back to school lunch boxes these definitely receive the YUMMY MUMMY SEAL OF APPROVAL for being an overall awesome bento and not only a kid friendly but mommy friendly too.
