Author: Ruth Field
Book Review: Run Fat Bitch Run!
By no means is this a new book on a current bestseller list but it was at one point and as a busy mom my bookshelf can sometimes be neglected from time to time due to life and oh yeah….exhaustion so I recently came across this book again and remembered how it literally made me laugh out loud and oh yes, start running and I thought I have to share this with my yummy mummy readers.
A bit about the book
Well its about running..haha but to expand a bit It is specifically about Ruth Field (the author) an attorney and mother who feels unfit, unhealthy and unmotivated to change her exercise and eating habits and after listening to her alter ego known as The Grit Doctor, who is able to catapult Ruth from the couch to the track, and create the daily ritual of running…which changed her life in more ways than JUST becoming a bestselling author. Ruth comically takes you step by step through her journey from couch potato to marathon runner by explaining how most of us start with this misconception that running is either for the really fit or the clinically insane but not for “me”. Most non-runners once they give running a go quickly discover running gives you an incredible rush of adrenaline, strength and mental agility and Ruth or rather the Grit Doctor puts you on the road to just that. Just a word of warning, if you are in any way emotionally sensitive or faint hearted this book might not be for you, if you didn’t pick that up already from the title. However, if you need a bit of motivation or someone to just kick all the excuses and BS out of you, well The Gritt Doctor is your gal. After reading this book you will not only laugh but you will feel this incredible urge to just stop the crap and try out this ol’ craze, everyone talks about, and believe me like all runners you will become an addict once you start.
Of course this book isn’t just for those who want to become more fit, or tick off a marathon from your bucket list, but its for those of you who want to find something that just gives you an edge above everyone else and gives you energy and mental strength to deal with your day and problems that come your way.
Everyone’s heard about the runner’s high by now? And as a runner I will tell you its TRUE. After you get through the pain, torture and boredom of your first week of training for a 5K run, you suddenly begin to break through and 5K or even 10K becomes a breeze for you. You get this incredible high, ambition and mental strength even while running, but you most definitely carry that energy and power throughout the day.
If you are thinking but I will never do a 5k, trust me you will. Ruth Field breaks down how to start and to maintain a program to reach your goal and the habit of running.
And yes I know there are wonderful apps and great things out there to get you running but personally, I love knowing someone’s personal story, struggles and success. That motivates me a whole of a hell lot more than a program telling me to run, skip, hop and do it again the next 5 days. Apps are great for keeping your motivation going or improving your running but I think this book is great for getting you started.
The book is short, its funny, it’s on point and it works if you follow it. After I read the book (which you can read in a day easy) you start the plan and you never look back….
This book has the YUMMY MUMMY SEAL OF APPROVAL
