Hello lovelies, I recently blogged about starting some upcycling projects, which are on the way I promise! Before I got stuck into that I had a few jobs around the house that I had to catch up on.
One being the dreaded oven! I forgot to take some before pics, but you really don’t want to know how bad it was ha ha! I’d like to say I let it get in such a sorry state for the purposes of this article, but I’d be lying! It’s just one of those jobs you put to the back of your mind and then one day you realise how badly it needs to be done!
I had heard lots of kitchen tips where they suggest using baking soda to clean the oven and as I had some in my baking cupboard I decided to give it a shot.
All you need is baking soda, or bicarbonate of soda as it’s sometimes called, some water and a very greasy oven! Mix the baking soda with some water until you achieve a thick paste. Next, spread it around the oven. I just used my hands as it’s not a chemical. Leave for at least 15 minutes and then wipe clean with a scouring sponge dipped in hot water. Some parts will probably still require some elbow grease, especially if it’s as dirty as mine was!
For the glass on the door I coated it in the paste and I left it sit overnight with the door open to avoid dripping. In the morning I got stuck into scrubbing. It didn’t take me long to get all of the grease off and be left with a window I could actually see through!
Even my boyfriend was amazed at how effective an edible product was at banishing the grease! What I love most is that there is no nasty chemical smell and no worries of residue left to cook into my family’s dinner!
I can’t recommend this little life hack more!
Now go and make that oven sparkle!
Yummy Mummy Tip
For the really burnt on grease, use a scrunched up ball of tin foil for extra scrubbing power! Please don’t use those nails to pick it, they’re jewels, not tools!
