In my years as an independent adult, I have found little challenges and struggles like the ones you face as a mother. As a mother of 4 wonderful souls, I now deeply understand the fear, worry, love, joy and endless emotions that overwhelmed my parents through the raising of their children. Motherhood is by far the most challenging and difficult role that one will have to step into, if you choose it or if it chooses you. The lessons that motherhood brings to your life and to your person are endless and it is a journey unlike any other in life. To be a mother is to discover parts of yourself that you would never seek to discover otherwise. Everyday you must practically conjure from thin air an immense internal strength to face the new challenges of the day, to ensure that today you will impart on your children; wisdom, love, care, nurture, nutrition, faith, self-confidence, compassion, sympathy, fearlessness, self-fullness, positivity, sharing, happiness, passion, a love for learning and teaching and mostly to help them tell their own story and not yours. Everyday you will face emotional battles and situations that sometimes surpass your daily given patience, understanding and capacity but as a good mother you will come back the next day trying harder and doing better. You will never stop learning about yourself through the eyes of your children. It is even in the most simple moments or the most difficult turmoil where you will find a lesson to learn when you stand back and listen. Mine has been and still is a journey of discovery, new road maps and constant damage control but it’s a journey that begins everyday anew. So let me get down to the point of today’s blog, let go of the guilt for not checking all the boxes everyday, let go of the ridicule that goes on in your head if your child is not like all the other children, if they are not top of the class, the best reader, the best swimmer, know how to ride a bike at 3 years of age. Maybe that day you bought pizza instead of making a home-cooked, gluten-free, vegan friendly, sugar-free meal. Maybe you let them watch too much TV or let them get away with having far too many sweets. You don’t need a compare chart, you don’t need a guilt-o-meter or scare-o-meter, look back at the moments you had with your children that day and everyday and whether they were simple moments at the playground or local coffee shop or more exciting trips and excursions, feel those moments, write about them every night or compile a collection of those moments every evening. You will look back, and all your worries and shortcomings for that day will dissipate. You will come back with an intense comeback to do more and cherish those moments even more the next day. I use a little technology to help me look back on those moments. The Magisto App is how I compile the collection of those moments and see every day, no matter how simple and non-exciting it may look like in still pictures, together the still images become yet another victory for me. Simply, because I am the one that gets to be with my children, I am the one taking the photos, dusting the sand from their scrapped up knee, guiding them through difficult homework and more importantly I am the one that gets to be their mother. I get to look back at each day with a sense of gratitude, fullness, victory and appreciation for my life. I further get to understand each day why motherhood chose me and of course I aim for a better compilation every day with far less edits ;)
A Yummy Mummy Tip
If you are a mom that sees everything in still images, and can’t see the whole picture, maybe you need a little motivation or you need to see your world through the eyes of another then I challenge you to try this out. Take pictures throughout your day of every thing you do for your children, as you walk them to school, or pack their lunches, or tie their shoes, when you collect them or take them to different places, cook them good meals and run around like a headless chicken, then let Magisto do the work. The app will even automatically take a number of photos from your day and compile them into a video for you if you do not want the work of doing it yourself. You can choose from many songs and themes and other little effects (i.e depending if you are a premium or business member), you can then download/share the videos when you’re happy with it or simply keep them on the Magisto server. You will see that you will look back on your day as any mother should, “I did my best”, “It wasn’t as bad as I thought it was”, “Phew, we got through it after all”, “Tomorrow will be even better”, even in the simple things we do as mothers, know we are doing enough but also know that being a mother is not simple and there is always more to be done. With lots of love, I sign off tonight and hope you will give this a try in your life today! Check out a couple of my moments below!
and of course Stay Yummy!
