Hi Yummy Mummys,
So let’s talk toys today! My little boy got the LeapFrog Fridge Phonics Magnetic Letter Set for Christmas (at that stage he was 19 months) he didn’t have much interest in it at the time. Now he is 2 and half and he is curious about new words, and his new thing being “Mama What’s that?” A perfect time to reintroduce the Christmas stow aways to this lil man. At a price range of 20 euros for this toy, you can’t go wrong. Your toddler not only learns the individual letters, their shape and phonic sound but also gets to hear different words, beginning with the said letters, learns the alphabet song and phonic songs for each letter to help toddlers already wire those brains and to avoid that oh so familiar confusion about letter’s name’s vs. their sound. This toy is ideal for toddlers and pre-schoolers to start a great foundation for reading, spelling and expanding their vocabulary. Best of all, even though this toy includes loads of pieces which can be a nuisance to some parents, the fact that they are magnets makes it perfect to place on your fridge or magnetic board in your child’s room or playroom and to keep all the letters in sight where your child will consistently seek to play and interact with the toy.
Food for thought
From Birth to around age 5 a child’s brain is developing rapidly. If parents make an intentional effort to incorporate effective phonetic toys and books into a child’s daily activities, it will make learning a lot easier and more fun.
Engaging your toddler in phonological play will help your child be more aware of the sound structure of words, building a strong literacy foundation and allowing them to form and decode words faster and easier. Ultimately, giving them a strong start at reading and spelling.
Toddlers and preschoolers are enthusiastic and energetic learners who love play and fun so choose toys that have an added educational benefit, as well as engaging and fun to help grow those lil’ minds into big strong ones.
