The sunny weather has everyone getting out and about, enjoying themselves and feeling great. The sun has a way of making everything appear brighter and happier 😊 -Awesome!
Now along with summer sun, comes the inevitable shedding of my winter layers. I’m on a mission to get healthy but I’m not in my target place yet, I’m quite a few miles off!
So on a recent shopping trip, I chanced trying on a size 10 jeans (crazy brave!) – but wait for it….they fit! Buttoned up and all! Chuffed as I was I decided to leave them behind and headed on to the next shop. This particular store is notorious for small fittings, so I decided to be generous with myself. I’m normally a 12, so I picked up a size 14 jeans. Now remember I’m still on a high from buttoning up a size 10!! so into the changing room I go, thinking these pants will slide on like a glove, might even be too loose….. Imagine my shock, and the horror when I struggle to get them over my thighs and have zero chance of buttoning them up. At this point I probably should have gone and tried a size 16 but I was quite upset so I left the store. I couldn’t understand how I’d gone from a size 10, to at least a 16 in the space of 10 mins. I believe every body is beautiful whether you’re a size 6 or a 26, it’s not the size that matters but rather your personality and your confidence. The number on your jeans shouldn’t matter but society dictates that it does matter. The media insist skinny is better and so how will the sizing in these shops affect the minds of vulnerable women who already feel we are too big to be beautiful? And the changes you face after becoming a mom and the pressure you feel to bounce back almost immediately after leaving the hospital with your new baby.
Fortunately, for me as a young mom my children and my need to mature before my time has made me realised that how I feel is more important than the little (or large) number on the tag of my jeans. And I’m working on making myself feel healthier and happier everyday in the meantime to have the outside match the inside.
Unfortunately for the shop in question I won’t be back to squash myself into your jeans any time soon, my booty deserves more comfort than that 😉
